The greatest generation is a wonderful example of a kindness in people. They came out of national isolationism to put their dearest family on ships to cross oceans and fight for people they did not even know, so they could enjoy freedom. The greatest generation did not think the sacrifice of their very own flesh and blood too costly for freeing strangers. They took a cue from Jesus and his willingness to sacrifice in love on the cross, so that we could be free from sin. The truest greatness of all humanity is to give your life for your friend. Just like Jesus gave his life for our restoration of relationship.
Jesus being a God – man took up life again and freely offers us that same opportunity of life through the gospel by us accepting his sacrifice and his call into heaven. In his kindness he was thinking of you on the cross. Jesus was thinking of mankind in the gospel as he designed and paid in full the price of relationship restoration with God and a permanent drawing place to everyone who accepts his gift of the gospel.
Be kind not nice as you live this life and God will reveal himself to you as you think through how to exercise free will and where the only source of good behavior comes from. You are loved by God no matter what you do. But. if you reject His call of his salvation, and his Spirit, you will make him do one of the toughest things God ever have to do, allowing your free will choice to exclude all non relationship with Christ Jesus for an eternity. Use your free will choice wisely; give God the opportunity to welcome you into heaven by accepting his gift of the gospel. It is your choice alone!
1 Corinthians 13:
4Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, 5does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, 6does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

I think you have an excellent point. I spent most my life as a fundamentalist Christian trying to be nice. I saw myself as a salesman for God’s true church, his true gospel, etc. Many people walked on me for being nice. I could have been a decent influence for God if I’d understood the difference between kindness and niceness. Between arrogance and self-depreciation. Between pride and self-confidence.
I saw Jesus as never sticking up for himself, so I rarely argued with the important, powerful people who lied about me, disagreed with me and walked on me. I wanted to be like Jesus, so I made the mistake of feeling that I was pleasing him by being a martyr of sorts in my daily life.
Rookie mistake. Ya hate to see it. 🙂

Welcome to the blog Talmage. I am honored with your comment. I have struggled with niceness so long just had to attempt to put it into words. Glad you are a fellow recover of nice trap… Please pray for me that I will not go back to “Nicegypt” and I will lift you up to with the same prayer. God is not finished with me yet.
